Techniques from Other Mediums

Gearing-up for the switch to yet another host (God willing, the last time we have to do this!), I realized the site had already gotten a bit disorganized. Most of this comes from a single design issue, as to how I should handle the RPG structure. So I decided to use a screenwriting technique to help me figure the whole thing out…

Up in Arms

Yes, the site is being developed offline, I just decided not to start updating as I finish things because we are switching servers in about a month and it would just be more work for me to do. Other than that, I had to have surgery on my wrist Tuesday and it has been bothering me for weeks now, so I was limited as to what I could do because of that. Add that to my neck/back problems, and I’ve been lucky to do what I’ve done!

So, nothing major to report, just checking-in to let you know we’re still on-track - I just decided to push the big June relaunch back because we’re changing hosts in July, so what’s the point?

Speakeasy is Down

Yup, The Speakeasy got raided and won’t be coming back in the foreseeable future due to the proliferation of spam.  I apologize for the inconvenience, but hardly anyone used it anyway, so we’ll give it another shot soon.

Part of the reason was becoming so familiar with the original software and having to change it and try to figure that out.  Because it was the least-used of any of the features, it is no longer a priority at this time.

Household Matters

Well, this has been a busy week.  All of the blogs got new templates, layouts, and designs, and a lot of them got a slew of new posts. Further, I have been doing a hell of a lot of behind-the-scenes work on any matter of things. I even had a rash of posts that I got out the door this morning! And even though I am designing and redesigning pages to be published (hopefully) this month, I have been putting-off some really important things close to home…

Flying Solo

After much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that going it alone actually works for me…

On the New Design and More

I often talk about how long I have been doing this and how I came from an artistic background and ran a BBS before this. I suppose some of it might be braggadocio - my trying to validate my Netizenry or what-have-you - but the reason (I believe) I say this so often is because I know a lot about what I am doing… in theory.

And when it comes to theory, I have a pretty firm one where webdesign is concerned: minimal elements, maximum navigation - things are more accessible when they are easier to find. But, again, I was an artsy kid - not in the “I make my own tattoos” or “I drew everything on my own skateboard” or the “I dye my hair black because I AM NOT A ROBOT” way that passes for “artistic” these days - I grew up drawing, inking, and painting (primarily comic books), so I have a love, and firm grasp, of design and aesthetics. That’s why I love webdesign…

Google Does It Again

Here’s a great blog post pointing out Google’s own deceptive ad practices. Don’t forget that Google’s explanation for the recent PR drops specifically aimed at blogs which include sponsored posts had everything to do with the fact that they are “misleading”!

The Matter’s Been Tabled

In working on this new Chill content, I remembered why I moved to SiteSpinner in the first place: tables!

Under Construction

I know we’ve had a lot of shaky starts since first we launch, and this is not another “excuse” post.  The Weirding is undergoing a massive update - the entire site - every section, every page.  Please bear with us while we get this done.

There finally is a lot of new content not just “on the way,” but ready to be published.  But, when I say we are under construction, I mean it: we are changing advertisers, design, directory structure, blog templates, and… literally everything.  You are going to be coming across even more dead links and 404s than ever before and I apologize, but once this is done, The Weirding will be pretty close to what it was supposed to be all along.

We will always be adding new content and updating, but if this is your first time here, please bookmark us and check back in a few weeks!  We hope to have most everything in place by April.  Thanks!
